Visas for a year in Bali: what to check first

A tourist stay is short. Before you sign a yearly lease, here is what to ask about your permit.

A tourist stay is short. Living in a villa for a year usually needs a longer permit, and the options change often, so treat this as a checklist, not advice.

What to ask before you sign

  • Which permit you will use (for example a long-stay or remote-worker type) and who sponsors it.
  • How long it lasts and whether it can be renewed from inside Indonesia.
  • What the landlord needs from you, such as a copy of your passport and permit.
  • What happens to the lease if your permit is refused or ends early.

Why it matters for the lease

A yearly lease is usually paid upfront. If your permit ends sooner, you may still owe the rent. Ask for a clause on early exit and on subleasing.

Rules change. Confirm with the Indonesian immigration office or a licensed agent, and have a local lawyer read the lease. This is general information, not legal advice.
